ABOUT
FREIGEIST ORCHESTER | MAKING THE PAST THE FUTURE
Freigeist Orchester is a new collective of period instrumentalists from Germany’s top orchestras that repackages symphonic music of the 18th and 19th centuries for the audience of the 21st century. Addressing the need to make H.I.P. (historically informed performance) finally hip, its mission is to revolutionise the symphonic concert experience through new formats and underground locations, whilst remaining true to the performance practice of great baroque, classical and early romantic composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert.
Founded by early music specialist and British conductor Joolz Gale, Freigeist Orchester is primarily project-based, focusing on tours and recordings, formed out of its sister project in Berlin, “Freigeist Festival”.
